Just in today, the Department of Education through DepEd Secretary Briones said that the opening of classes for the SY 2020-2021 will be on August 24, 2020.
The Department of Education (DepEd) said Tuesday that they would move the opening of classes from June to August while the country continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Ang napili nating school opening date ay August 24,” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said in a virtual press briefing.
This decision to delay the start of the school was already consulted with the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease, a group that manages the government’s efforts to control the spread of COVID-19 said, Briones.
The start of the school year is usually set in the month of June but Republic Act No. 7977 allows it to take place “not later than the last day of August.”
Education officials earlier also said that not all teachers and students would be required to physically report to schools once classes begin as a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The DepEd is also eyeing to implement various approaches, such as online learning and offline methods like take-home readings and activities, as well as the utilization of ICT, TV, and Radion in delivering education for the next school year.
